Conococheague Creek Fish Habitat Project
After the removal of the Scotland Pond Dam in November of 2019 additional grant funding was available which allowed for additional restoration work on the site. The Greene Township Supervisors and the Grant Administrators decided to use the additional funding for access and stream habitat improvements in the area of the Dam Removal Project (Site A) and within the Scotland Memorial Park (Site B). The project provides access to the creek for children and persons of limited mobility, and to provide fish habitat for recreational fishing.
Site A has a fishing pier overlooking a rock cross vane and randomly spaced boulders in the pool below the cross vane. Rock cross vanes are structures that slow the rate of water flow, reducing the risk of erosion as a result. They also deflect stream flow to the center of the channel and create pools.
Site B is on the property within Scotland Memorial Park. A newly constructed trail leads to a fishing pier overlooking multiple randomly spaced boulders.
